In my day, we considered the usual things when getting a pet: did it meet our needs for a smaller or larger breed; was it easy to train; was it allowed where we lived; was it easy to obtain; were the needs of the pet easy to accommodate and was the price right initially and beyond?
Today, we always have to consider what the internet is pushing. Those cute videos on You Tube and Tik Tok play a big part in making us realize this animal could be right up our alley.
Not only that, many who watch these videos like the idea of sharing their experiences too with these creatures on their own channel. Let’s face it, this is a great way to make others pay attention to your videos.
And you might just have a winner there in the combined attractive aspect of the pet and your expertise with them to make money doing this. While I applaud the industrious aspect of doing such a thing, I hope these are owners who show their respective animals the kindness and love they deserve.
I do agree that those who care are doing different breeds a favour since we can now see up front and personal how these pets interact with humans and it might actually mean some deserving creatures get adopted.
So what is popular? Well Tik Tok is pushing bunnies. No doubt the low cost is a factor. Talking birds also draw crowds. And hedgehogs have a following if you can believe that. On Instagram snakes prevail and of course, cats and dogs have a huge approval rate.
But when I see how many people tire of their pets because they are not prepared for costs or the work to clean them up and feed them leading to bringing them back, I could cry since it is so unfair to the animal.
Worse yet, some people let them go to fend for themselves believing they will be okay in the big wide world by themselves. That is cruel and an assumption that costs lives. Having a pet is a privilege and you must be mature about having one. These creatures deserve a loving home and did not ask to be a star. Please think about that. But to the others who have honest, reliable motives, I thank you.
