LGBTQ Veterans Now Have A Refuge
Veterans all need a safe place and should get the respect they deserve. But marginalized groups need that kind of support even more.

I am stunned that after all these years of trying to help others who are disadvantaged in some way because they are marginalized, people have decided to adopt decisions in the US that affect so many lives in a cruel and demeaning way.
We can see the need for attention to something and yet we turn away because certain political figures suggest punitive actions for being merciful, caring and understanding towards these figures.
When did humanity decide it was okay to lack empathy? So I guess that means you yourself have never needed that kind of response from someone. You are okay with judging others so harshly and yet still expect others to take kindly towards you.
So when I saw this story about a home that had been expanded to create rooms for LGBTQ veterans in West Seattle, I was cheering because there are still level heads in the US who see a need and are doing something about it.
This home allows people who fought for the US to find a soft landing on a temporary basis for six to eighteen months while they find other more permanent shelter and settle into the community.
If that story does not make you feel good, I have to wonder what happened to your heart? At a time when the military is ousting transgender individuals and not recognizing their constitutional rights, there is a little sanity, a light in the darkness in West Seattle in a first ever such residence called Q’mmunity House.
Not only have these dedicated individuals met the need for housing but the placement was seriously considered. It stands near the veterans centre and hospital. They also get counselling and any other assistance related to their specific requirements.
You may be interested to know these people are not handled the same as other veterans. They cannot get the usual housing vouchers because the military is discriminating. Such outdated views need to be addressed and severe mandates imposed so this is no longer allowed.
I intend to continue to cheer for those who are so maligned. Find it in your heart to care about others again too. I will be the first to cheer you on.
