The Homeless Camps Remind Me of Bunker Living

We often believe our situations or happenings are original but reviewing a page from history tells us differently.

Those who were raised during the cold war had the constant fear of a nuclear war to contend with. That led many to create back yard underground bunkers that were fully decked out with survival gear in the event of the unthinkable.

But living in an unconventional way is not new story. The dirty thirties also had many living a bunker sort of life, some stayed in their cars and others built crude shelters. The lack of money and the great depression fuelled the experience.

Now we have priced many out of the right to have shelter because greed demands huge sums for many to pay for provided city living dwellings. It is no wonder that people have thrown up their hands and reverted to living on the street in nothing but a tent.

Others who have kids look to their vehicles to provide some form of safety and protection from the elements. These often have more than one job and their kids go to school but they still cannot afford shelter.

Then there are those who have chosen to deliberately live off grid in tiny homes. Further, there are the doomsday types who are preparing for what they feel is the inevitable failure of all services who are loading up with provisions and intend to defend their hoard.

I have a pioneer spirit living in me and have always preferred independence to following the masses. But sometimes other issues intervene and the best you can do is to provide your own food like in a back yard veggie garden.

It turns out that alone could be a life saver since so many are unhealthy and do not show interest in helping themselves. We do have a right to look after ourselves. I suggest a happy medium where we do what we can by taking the reins and providing alternatives that might help us fare better.
