The Landline Is Becoming Popular Once Again
Many parents are looking for options for kids and cell phones

While I have always found the landline to be the best option for me, many have turned strictly towards modern cell tech to fill the gap. But as we know, when it comes to kids, there are risks to letting them have a mobile phone.
For me it is because I do not feel the need for immediacy in my daily routine. I can wait till I am home to call friends and share information with businesses. That allows me to select when I hear from people and that includes friends.
My time at home is precious to me, it is my sanctuary. And there are occasions when I feel free to devote moments to others and when I have other things to attend to. Now that I am older, this selection is mine to appreciate and friends understand that.
The landline is also a much more secure option since it is not the focus of scammers who fare better where the majority spend their time. That is not to say I do not have scam calls but they are easier to spot and I just don’t answer when I see that is the case.
Kids like the idea of being popular and so a phone is both entertainment and a vehicle that provides connection 24/7. And that mindless scrolling, staying on the device for long periods allows fraudsters and devious types to take advantage.
So some parents are using this idea to still allow connection but dial back the internet activity. This is because kids are impressionable and seeing unrealistic material day after day can lower self esteem and make the child question who they are and change their values. In some cases, it can even leave the child open to predators.
An extension of this landline activity is providing dumb phones that also help by not including connection to the internet. But even then, we need to spend time with our kids to explain to them why we need to protect them and the hidden dangers that exist.
Of course, that also means that by example, parents have to be realistic in their own use. Addiction is not limited to kids. But this point needs to be addressed by parents for the sake of their families since big tech is yet to take responsibility.
