We have long been aware of those individuals, particularly children, who have to watch what they eat so as not to have an allergic reaction. So it should be a big relief for many who now have young kids that this might be avoided with a new approach.

As an older individual, I can remember this being a serious thing but there was not the same number of problems. In fact, it was rare to have an individual who suffered from the conditions associated with food allergies.

And here is where I have to wonder why it took so long. As a kid in my day, we were introduced to food gradually in order to become aware of the variety out there and not to have so many products we don’t like.

That approach seems reasonable. So why it did not occur to people to do the same for those foods that are now on the allergy list, I do not know. For in fact, doctors are now suggesting we do that with peanuts, milk, eggs, soybeans, wheat and more.

The medical world is acting like this is a trans-formative approach since it appears to be working. And it is a fact that doctors still do not know what causes these allergies and why the body tries to attack such foods.

I have my own theory and it has to do with the fact that the generation suffering the most from this malady appears to be the one dealing with non-foods, the heavily processed edibles that are advertised beyond belief.

In other words, people are not eating the basic foods, the real food. They are playing into the concept that anything saying it has a product in it that is highly processed is still nutritious.

When did we stop reading labels to see what is actually in it and when did we become so lazy that cooking our own meals became passe? I suggest that those additional so called ingredients are causing the issue and that is what the body reacts to.

Perhaps returning to real foods and eating more home cooked meals will bring this issue to an end. In any case, we need to follow our own instincts and use some common sense.
