When Action Takes Over Reason

I found myself shaking my head when I recently read a story by The New York Times by Christopher Maag dated July 29, 2024 entitled: ‘How Two Wandering Cows Started a Culture War'

To summarize the basic points, a cow and a steer ambled into a neighbouring yard in the rural area of New York and that is when the trouble began because this farm was a sanctuary that pushed a vegan lifestyle.

The woman who owned the sanctuary did the right thing to call animal control and they in turn discovered the owner. But she failed to return the cows since several days had gone by when the animal control officer showed up and she then said the alleged owner should pay her for feed and she wanted proof of ownership.

She got a lawyer involved and from there years went by with respective lawyers presenting the facts while the public and news agencies brought the problem into focus making the public offer their two cents which was not positive.

It did not end well. Suffice to say, there are situations in our lives where our very decisions can make a simple event turn into a circus. How we go about our lives, the comments we make and our own stubbornness to be the prevailing view can alter a peaceful life.

I bring this up because it is evident that there is a swath of individuals who are angry and vocal about their lot in life and are making sure others pay for their lack of reasonable attitude. It means the rest of us are having to learn how to navigate these hostile waters.

I believe, since I am a peaceful person, that we need to handle this with kid gloves and patience, even a sense of humour if you are that way inclined. All of this anger is not good for anyone but I believe our own insistence on following social media that is negative has a huge bearing on this.

To shut it down before it develops into something well beyond reason, do not engage with these trolls. We do have control but we need to exert peaceful means to get there. Don’t let your life turn into something you will regret.
